Ben Vrackie by Train - Monday 19th March

Guide - Jon
Clients - Will, Suze & Sandra Dee
Conditions - Overcast, warm-ish low down and wintry wind on the summit
This was our first day tour of 2012 - the previous 3 winters we have still been skiing in mid March (either at one of the Scottish ski centres or touring around the Glenshee hills) - today we had no hint of snow or ice on Ben Vrackie and just a few glimpses of snow stripes over on Shiehalion, Ben a Ghlo and the southern Cairngorms when the icy wind intermittently lifted the cloud base. We wandered off back to Pitlochry by way of the Bealach path before stopping for a tasty pub dinner and real Atholl Ale at the Moulin Inn

Had a great day out: stretching the legs and lungs, picnicking at the summit, crossing paths with friendly locals and dogs, and capping it all off at the pub.

Found Walkabout Scotland on the net in preparation of business and personal trip to Scotland. Was in contact with Jon for two months, and I can say that he exceeds customer satisfaction in my email dialogue and whle on the hike. Jon was a great tour guide...clear in plans, execution of hike, freedom to venture out on own but within group safety limits, aware of all hikers needs, informative of geography and historical markers, flexible with options. Après hike, we enjoyed local ales and grub at Scottish pub. Great conversation. Jon was a fabulous tour guide and would highly recommend a hike/walkabout with him anytime and anywhere. Will from USA.
