Hello Jon,
Carl and I want you to know that we had an absolutely wonderful hiking holiday on the Isle of Skye. It was even better than we hoped it would be.
The key to its success was our guide, although admittedly Skye itself is a pretty fantastic location. John Orr was professional, knowledgeable, and personable to boot. Somehow he was able to gauge our (varying) skill levels and challenge all four us just the right amount. Not an easy task, and I suspect something that only a mature and experienced guide such as John is be able pull off to the mutual satisfaction of all participants. We felt able to trust him wherever he led us! And he led us to some pretty amazing locations.
The drive to and from Skye was also pleasant, with John patiently adding lots of "tourist" stops en route. Accommodations were fine (with a bit of a preference for Broadfoot over Portree for Carl and I). And dinner each night was totally satisfying- even for this lone vegetarian- due to both John's thoughtful choice of restautants and his company.
Just wanted to drop you a line to say we had a fantastic walking trip on Skye three weeks ago(16-22 May) with John Orr, our guide. John is an outstanding guide and a very nice person. We had a great time with him and his good humour and odd sense of humour were a bonus. We hit all the highlights and everything went flawlessly from our perspective. He was well organized, on time and always very cheerful. His knowledge of Scottish history made the trip very interesting as well as his knowledge of flora and fauna. His library of reference books came in very handy.
I know that Carl and Lynn also enjoyed the trip very much although Lynn was a bit unpleasant at time as she does not like scree. How can you not have scree when you are in the mountains!! Carl thought it was absolutely great and he had a great time. He can't stop talking about the trip.
Everything went flawlessly and the accommodation, food and drink were excellent. We will strongly recommend this trip to all our friends. I will post something positive on the blog along with some photos of our trip.
Please do not hesitate to use us as references. We will highly recommend your tours.
